Ernest Speth Jr.

Ernest (“Ernie”) Speth, Jr., 82, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Trinity Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Ernie was involved in local stock car racing for over thirty years. In 1954 he was the State of Iowa NASCAR Champion and continued to be involved in racing up until the time of his death. He married Kathryn Fuller in 1954. They later divorced.

Survivors include children, Michael E. Speth of Stockton, IA, Steve and Kimberly Speth of Davenport, and Connie Noe and Kevin Wall of Davenport; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Speth, sister, Sue Terronez, and sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Harold Hansen, all of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marge; brother, Ray Speth; and brother-in-law, Lencho Terronez.
