A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Church Assembly of God in LeClaire, IA. Eugene was born on July 24, 1936, the son of George and Florence (Ozias) Cyphers in Davenport, IA. He was educated in the
Davenport school system and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Augustana University. He taught economics in the Chicago area at Willowbrook High School for 20 years and in Freeport for 4 years. After retirement he became a substitute teacher in Davenport for 20 years where he became the subject of an article dubbing him “Favorite substitute teacher”.
Eugene was very funny, loved current events, and enjoyed stopping and talking to people. He gave out compliments like they were candy to everyone he met. Eugene loved to share a joke, good or bad. He was also a member of Hope Church in LeClaire, IA, for many years.
He is survived by his nephew, Stephen Cyphers; niece, Mary Babiarz; and dear friend, Pastor Renee McGinty; along with his church family and a host of friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George.
