Evangelina was born on January 31, 1931 in Laredo, Texas to Martin and Cecelia Garcia. She was united in marriage to Primitivo “Primo” Martinez on August 22, 1950; he preceded her in death in 2018. Evangelina dedicated her life to raising her children and helping to raise her grandchildren. She loved to cook, clean, and do laundry. When she moved closer to her children, Evangelina would often “sneak” over to their houses and surprise them by cooking them a meal or cleaning up.
Evangelina also known as “Welita” or “Tia Cheeta” would embrace you immediately upon meeting her. She had a servent’s heart and would make sure you knew you were loved by her sweet embrace and whisper in your ear “Te querion mucho”. She was a faithful servant of God and prayed for her family daily. She enjoyed her husband, Primo, reading to her from the book of Psalms.
Evangelina is survived by her daughters Cecilia Gonazalez; Laredo, TX, Raquel (Douglas) Belville Davenport, IA, Rosie (Jim) Davis; Midlothian, TX, and Evangelina (Delfino) Aguilar; Muscatine, IA; 26 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Primo; her parents; daughters Anna Garcia and Pascuala Martinez; her son Primitivo Martinez; granddaughter Evangelina Gutierrez; and 4 siblings.
