A Celebration of Life is being held on Friday, May 6, 2022, from 4:00p-7:00p at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, Iowa. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
Frances was born to Parrish and Lena (Dewberry) Hughes on December 12, 1941. She was united in marriage to Charles James Appleby, Sr., on May 6, 1960 in Bettendorf, Iowa and they remained happily married for over 57 years until his death in 2017.
To Fran, everyone was family. It didn’t matter if you knew her for 15 minutes or 15 years, you felt like you were family in her presence. She was affectionately known to many as “Nanny”. She had the heart of a caretaker and it showed in almost every relationship she embarked on.
As a lover of the outdoors and making memories with her family, some of her favorite pastimes included camping, flower gardening and watching any kids you wanted to drop off for the day! You could always find her ready to offer you something to eat accompanied by good conversation. If you ask anyone, by far, her most favorite pastime was spending time with her “babies”.
Those remaining to celebrate her life and take their turn carrying on her loving traditions, include her brother, Clyde Hughes, her children: Tina (Johnny) Flowers; Chuck (Melissa) Appleby, Jr.; Tiffney (Corey) Gasper, Crystal (Wally) Henkel; (grand)children Kevin (Emily) Honaker, Breann Appleby, Bailey Appleby, 10 (great)grandchildren and many extended family and friends made throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband and seven siblings. Memorials can be made to the family.
The family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Park Vista Retirement Living Community of East Moline. The care and love they showed Nanny in her last days will never be forgotten.
