Bettendorf – Gary C. Lundvall, 67, of Bettendorf passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 surrounded by family at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Gary Lundvall was born in Davenport to Harry and Evelyn (Zimmerman) Lundvall on September 1, 1946. He met Kathleen (Oaks) Lundvall at age 14. They dated through Junior High, Davenport West High School and University of Iowa; marrying June 10, 1967. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1968 where he received his Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Public Relations. Gary’s professional career started at the Davenport Chamber of Commerce. From there Gary went on to become the Executive Director for multiple Construction Trade Associations - the Quad City Painting and Decorating Contractors Association, the Eastern IA/Western IL Mechanical Contractors Association and the Piping Industry Council of the Rockford Area.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Kathleen (Oaks) Lundvall, daughter Kim (Gregg) Johnson, grandkids Gregg Jr. and Meghan Johnson; son Rick Lundvall, (Julie), and grandkids, Andrew and Abby Lundvall. He is also survived by his sister Dianne (Harry) Lantau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Evelyn Lundvall. Gary had a wide range of interests and enjoyed everything life offered. A perfect day would be attending a theatre production of the Phantom of the Opera, and then leaving to go to a boxing match, tough man contest or dirt car races. He enjoyed golf and lunches with many close friends. Gary loved to travel whether for work or with his family on special vacations. Gary is the proud owner of a diamond ring showcasing his 300 game he bowled in 1972 – and enjoyed telling all who would listen about his world record that would never be beaten. Spending time with the grandkids was an important part of his life. He enjoyed attending and hearing about their many sporting events, dance and gymnastic competitions. Where Gary really shined was sitting around the table playing games and entertaining them with his big stories that always brought a smile to their faces. Gary was especially proud of being one of the Founding and longest running Board members of the ILLOWA Construction Labor Management Council. Gary was respected in the Union Construction Industry while serving in his position for 42 years as Executive Director. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 1:00 p.m, at Runge Mortuary & Crematory, 838 E. Kimberly Rd., Davenport, IA.
