

Davenport, IA Private family services for George Craig, 86, of Davenport, will be at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport at a later date. Inurnment will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion #26.Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisting family with arrangements.Mr. Craig passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport.George Craig was born on September 6, 1924 in Flint, MI, the son of James and Margaret (McMorland) Craig. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. After serving in the military he married Helen Havlichek on July 28, 1945 in Flint, MI. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1996. George attended the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1949 in Mechanical Engineering. George worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Ford Motor Co. in Michigan. He later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1985. George was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his daughters; Christine (Elwyn) Holst of Davenport, Carolyn Grissom of Tucson, AZ, Peggy (Leon) Brower of Bettendorf Pamela (Carson) Matlack of Parker, CO, 11 grandchildren; Matthew, Adam, Leigh, Lindsay, Brad, Leah, Lindsey, Jared, Jennifer, Jeremy, Craig, and 10 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen and a sister; Margaret Craig.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice Compassus, Davenport.The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Compassus for keeping George comfortable, and also the staff at the Kahl Home for their care during his stay.Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.cunnick-collins.com
