George W. Holmes, 96, of Davenport passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facilities in Bettendorf. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa Street, Davenport, Iowa. Mr. Holmes was born April 30, 1916 in Polk County, Iowa. On October 13, 1946 he married Ruth Odem in Davenport, Iowa. He was employed as an accountant at the former Dickson Tax and Bookkeeping Co. in Davenport for twenty years, retiring in 1982. His memberships included First Presbyterian Church and Trinity Lodge #208, AF&AM. He was active in Boy Scouts for over 55 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth and two sons: Dr. David Holmes of Coralville, Iowa and Kerry Holmes of Rock Island, Illinois; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister, Arlene Garred of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip, in 1992.
