Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion – Post #26. Mr. Kester passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. George Henry Kester was born on February 13, 1927 in Davenport, the son of George and Irene (Wiese) Kester. On October 10, 1953 he married Betty L. Duffy in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 2007. George worked as a tool engineer for Reynold’s Engineering and Swan Engineering. After 10 years of service he retired from Caterpillar in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion – Post #26 and the Davenport Elks. Golf was one of his favorite pastimes, and he was very proud of his one and only hole in one. He was known as Mr. Fix-It to his children, and they kept him active using his mechanical and engineering skills. George took great pride in building his red Bernardi kit car, also known as “The Little Red Car.” Most recently, George was an Honor Flight recipient. It was an amazing experience for him. He especially enjoyed the “mail call” on the return flight home from Washington D.C., and was emotionally touched by the community support at the airport. He is survived by two Daughters: Linda S. Kester of White Lake, MI, Lisa A. (Jerry) Driskell of Park View, IA; two Sons: Stanley A. (Connie) Kester of Davenport, Todd G. Kester of Rock Island; two Grandsons: Jason and Dylan Kester; a Sister: Lois Haynes of Davenport; and Nephews: Joseph (V.J.) Kester, Jr., Cameron Haynes, Gordon Haynes, Greg Haynes. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Kester; and a brother, Joseph Kester. Memorials may be directed to Clarissa C. Cook Hopsice House in Bettendorf or to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Ratnakar and the nurses and staff of Genesis, West Campus Oncology Unit and to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their compassion and exceptional care of George during his stay.
