

Funeral services will be 10:00am Tuesday (5/20) at the Mortuary with burial to follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to Gladys’ favorite charities. On line condolences can be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.
Gladys was born July 24, 1933 to J.Ellis and Alma (Beuthien) Benson at St. Luke’s Hospital, Davenport, Iowa. She took piano lessons for 10 years, and was a proud member of the Girl Scouts from 2nd through 12th grade. From 8th through 12th grade, she worked for her father at Benson’s Food Products by helping to deliver various products. She graduated from Davenport (Central) High School in 1951.
After high school, she worked for Davenport Besler Corporation and Brammer Manufacturing Company. In 1954, she met her future husband, Earl Raymond Coker, at the Prom Skating Rink. They were married in the RLDS Church in Davenport on October 1, 1955.
Gladys was secretary for the BlackHawk Three-Quarter Midget Racing Association (WTQMRA) for many years. She volunteered as a Boy Scout Den Mother and Brownie, Junior and Cadette Girl Scout leader. She bowled for 25 years. In 1978, with her husband and son, they started KwikTune KwikLube Automotive Consultants, retiring in 1991. During retirement she enjoyed quilting, monthly luncheons with high school friends, and playing euchre at CASI, enjoying the many friends she met there. She continuously demonstrated love, devotion and commitment to her family.
Gladys is survived by her three children, Donald Alan Coker, Davenport, Iowa; Catherine Ann (Coker) Creighton, Urbandale, Iowa; and Patricia Ann (Coker) Hogan, Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Josh) (Coker) Hunt, Michael Coker, and Paul Creighton, all of Davenport; Joshua Newsum, Denver, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Clayton and Parker Coker, and Miley Creighton, all of Davenport. Preceding her in death were her husband Earl, father and mother, step-sister Ruth Shippy, step-brothers Roy Sr. and Lauren Benson; grandchildren Shawn Michael Coker and Katie Michelle Hogan; and family cats Spook, Blackie, Snowball and Tabbee; may they rest in peace.
