
Gladys E. McCoy, 93, of Maquoketa, formerly of DeWitt; passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Clover Ridge Place. Funeral service to honor Gladys’ memory will be held on [ Date ] at Weerts Funeral Home; visitation will be an hour before the service. She will be buried at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials in Gladys’ name may be made to The 700 Club.
Gladys was born on December 14, 1930 in Davenport, Iowa to Frank and Jessie Koschate. She was a 1949 graduate of Davenport Central High School. Gladys was united in marriage to Robert McCoy on February 23, 1950; he preceded her in passing in 2015. Gladys was a homemaker and loved being a wife and mother; she loved Jesus and spending time with her family. In her younger years, Gladys enjoyed snowmobiling and jet skiing. She also enjoyed crafting, listening to gospel music, especially old time hymns, reading, and walking at the North Park Mall. Gladys loved spending time with her friends and going camping and traveling. She taught Sunday School, Children’s Church, and Child Evangelism for several years. Gladys lived in Black River Falls, Wisconsin for five years before moving to DeWitt, Iowa.
Those left to honor her memory are her children Lisa Heller, and Gregory McCoy; grandchildren Jessica Bekkum, Jason (Heather) McCoy, Matthew McCoy(Britta), Nicole Heller(Derrick), and Makayla Heller(Jeremy)and Five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her daughter Rennie “Rene” Bekkum, son Randy McCoy, daughter-in-law Sandy McCoy, grandson Chad Bekkum, sister Beverly Serrano, her parents, and siblings-in-law Dolly (Elmer) Hebelert, Dorthoy (Dick) Durham, Betty Jane (Gordon) Mullins, Albert Jr. (Betty) McCoy, and James “Jim” McCoy. She was a light and a huge blessing and will be greatly missed.
