Private graveside services for Glenn I. Osborne, 86, of Bettendorf will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his daughter. After several months of declining health, Mr. Osborne passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements. Glenn Irvin Osborne was born on April 14, 1927 near Centerville, IA, the son of Chester and Sadie (Litsey) Osborne. He was the only boy among seven sisters. Most of his adolescent years were spent in the former Iowa Children Orphan's Home in Davenport. As a teenager, Glenn served in the military during the latter years of World War II and later during the Korean War. He graduated from the former Iowa State Teacher's College (now University of Northern Iowa) in 1957. On March 16, 1957, he married Gloria Nelsen in the First Baptist Church of Newell, IA. Two children were born to this marriage, Anne Elizabeth and Gregg David. In the decade that followed, Glenn worked a variety of jobs and relocated to Bettendorf, IA in 1963. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he worked for many years at Linwood Mining. He continued to live in the same house for 46 years, enjoying his yard and garden, model railroading, traveling, and taking care of his much loved pets. Most recently Glenn was a regular attendee of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, but through the years had been a member of several Baptist churches. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria Osborne of Bettendorf; his son, Gregg Osborne, daughter-in-law, Sally, and granddaughter, Samantha, of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother-in-law, Gary Nelsen and his family of Springfield, IL; and several sisters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Elizabeth, in 1995. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. God speed and may he rest in peace.
