On Saturday April 27, 2019 he passed away, surrounded by his family, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday May 6th, at First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa Street, Davenport, where he was a devoted member. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Dewitt, IA Visitation is Monday from 9 – 11 AM, at First Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, or the Scott County Humane Society.
He was born in Davenport on June 21, 1966, the son of John and Jo Marie Bates. He had a special bond with his mother following the death of his father. Jo and Greg shared a home, where they took care of and helped each other. They enjoyed life together, often traveling to places like Boston and Maine. Greg loved documenting their trips and their home lives through photography. He was an avid fisherman, who also enjoyed gardening and taking care of his cats, Hope and Oliver.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, John. Survivors include his mother Jo; sister, Debra (Mark) Hayes; brothers: Rick (Nancy) Bates and Bill (Carolyn) Bates; nieces and nephews: Mike (Jenni) Hayes, Angela Hayes, Kelley (Andrew) Manson, Laura (Jeremy) Sanders, Katie (Andrew) Proball and Hannah (Matthew) Bates; and great-nieces and nephew: Cecilia, Rosalie, Olivia, and William.
