Harold was born in Chicago on April 9, 1927, to Harold E. and Myrtle (Denning) Wollenhaupt.
After graduating from Parker High School in Chicago, he attended Iowa Wesleyan College. While owning a hardware store and TV repair shop in Richton Park, he served as a volunteer fireman. Later he worked for 20 years as a lab technician for Underwriters Laboratory in Chicago, safety-testing TVs and radios. Upon retirement, he moved to Stockton, where he pursued many interests, including snowmobiling, boating, woodworking, and growing vegetables. He tried his hand at making maple syrup and beer. He could fix anything and was always working on a project for himself or others. Harold taught himself to use a computer in his senior years and, among other things, volunteered to restore a pioneer cemetery and helped build a model civil war fort in Elizabeth, Illinois. Later he lived at Palmer Hills Independent Retirement Community in Bettendorf. He loved physics, problem-solving, the Chicago Bears and Cubs, politics, cats and eagle-watching. He always maintained a deep respect for nature.
Those left to cherish Harold’s memory are his daughter, Caryn Rose Luebke (Chuck), his son, Phillip E. Wollenhaupt, two granddaughters, Amanda Moore (Jeremy), Sara Klein (Topher), 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and a grandson.
