Harry Lewis Schafer, 84, of Bettendorf, IA, passed away April 29, 2020, at his home after an extended illness. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Harry’s name may be directed to UnityPoint Hospice.
Harry was born in 1935 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Louis and Bernice Schafer. He married Suzanne Casady, October 21, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Keokuk. Harry loved spending time with his family, camping, canoeing or just getting together. He loved to travel in his fifth wheel and back roading on different adventures. Harry enjoyed meeting with a group of co-workers from past employers. His favorite hobby was working in his yard and watching the birds and squirrels he fed.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Suzanne of 60 years; daughter, Sherry; and a grandson, Joshua Schafer. Survivors include daughters; Terry (Lonnie) Pool of Bettendorf, Laura Ludin of Davenport, Paula (Fred) Lepley of Bettendorf; a son, Robert (Sue) Schafer of LeClaire, IA; and a brother, Carl (Linda) Schafer of Monroe City, MO. Harry loved all of his grandchildren; Ashley Connell, Chelsi Pool, Kelli Pool, Cody Washam, Sarah Lepley, Carter Lepley, Samantha Lepley, Casey Volrath, Kelli Houston; and his great grandchildren, Eliza Connell, Rowan Connell, Lydia Connell, Mason Schafer, Eastin Volrath, Brooklyn Houston and Palmer Houston.
