Helen Thune

Helen Thune, 87 of Bettendorf, IA passed away Saturday, December 21st, 2024 at Genesis East Medical Center. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bettendorf, IA at 10am Friday, January 3rd, 2025. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Church service. Graveside service will be at 3:30pm at the Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery in Highlandville, IA.

Helen Lien Thune was born on the family farm in Springfield Township, Winneshiek County, IA on March 23rd,1937 to Elmer and Grace (Borness) Lien. She graduated from Calmar High School in 1956. Helen married Dean Alden Thune on October 25,1958 in Decorah, IA. Helen worked for the Davenport Community Schools for many years before retiring in 1999. Helen enjoyed gardening, golfing, traveling with her family, and playing bridge. Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, IA.

Helen is survived by three sons: David (Sylvia) Thune Las Cruces, NM, Randall (Robin) Thune Bettendorf, IA, Daniel (Timi) Thune Princeton, IA. Grandchildren: Michael (Samantha) Thune, Ryan Thune, Dustin (Shelby) Thune, Sarah Tyler, Kaitlin Thune, Jacob Thune, Ian Thune, Aaron Thune, Zachary Thune. Great Grandchildren: Leam, Lola. Siblings: Ray (Aurora) Lien, Harold (Janice) Lien.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Dean Thune, Parents Elmer and Grace Lien, Son Eric Thune, Siblings Viola Linderbaum, Celia Stoen, Robert Lien.

Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society in Helen’s Name.
