Helene Friedman

Helene Friedman passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 91. Helene was born March 2nd 1935 in Davenport to Louis and Elsie Alter. She graduated from Davenport Central High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin.

She married Harry Friedman in 1954, after he got out of the Navy, and they had three children, Richard, Janet (Holt), and Jerry.

Helene was a devoted homemaker, and was active in the Jewish community. She loved to cook and bake and there was an abundance of tasty treats for visitors to enjoy. Her doors were always open and her home a welcoming gathering place for the holidays.

She was active in the PTA while her children were in school, and then again when her grandchildren started school. During the holidays, she read Hanukkah books to kindergarteners.

Helene was active in the Jewish community as part of the Temple Emanuel Sisterhood where she served as president for several terms.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, and her parents Elsie and Louis Alter.

She is survived by her sister, Joanne Satin and her children Richard Friedman, his wife Mert and their son Benny; Janet Holt, her husband Lindsay, and her children Louis and Meredith; and Jerry and his wife Susan.
