

Henrietta Margaret Poppe, 85, of Davenport and formerly of Blue Grass, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at ManorCare in Davenport. Henrietta was born April 29, 1927 at home in New Liberty, Iowa to Charles and Margaret (Rahlf) Ewoldt. She was united in marriage to Robert Poppe on February 22, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa. He died January 13, 2011. She graduated from Eastern Iowa Community College, Licensed Practical Nursing Program on February 20, 1968. She worked for the Davenport Visiting Nurses and as a private duty nurse, retiring from Royal Neighbors Home in 1992. She farmed with her husband in Northeast Davenport. Henrietta was active in PTA and 4-H while raising her children. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, American Business Women Association and Scott County Republican Women. After moving to Blue Grass in 1986, Henrietta was involved in the Blue Grass Share Food, Lions Club and Market Day. An avid reader, Henrietta was a Friend of the Blue Grass and Eldridge Libraries. Henrietta was named the 2006 ABWA Paddlewheel Chapter Women of the Year. In 2012 Henrietta and Robert received the Warren Coleman Honorary Award by the Iowa Lions Foundation for their leadership and service. They traveled to many places locally, across the United States and Europe. She enjoyed working on the daily crossword puzzle. Those left to honor her memory include a daughter, Ruth (Kim) Swab, sons Mark (Sharyl) Poppe both of Davenport and David (Kat McElroy) Poppe, of Nenana, Alaska; grandchildren Eric Swab, Fort Collins, Colorado, Lisa Swab, Ankeny, and Kara and Steven Poppe, Davenport, step-granddaughter Bryn McElroy, North Pole, Alaska; step-great grandchildren Leon, Aurora, and Olivia McElroy, North Pole, Alaska; sisters-in-law, Carol Ewoldt, Davenport, Ethel Arp and Ruby Paustian, Eldridge; brother-in-law, Loyd (Helen) Poppe, Strawberry Point; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Russell.
