

Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2023 from 12 pm to 2 pm at The Runge Mortuary. There will be no services. His final resting place will be in the Davenport Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.
Herbert was born in Davenport on July 23, 1930. He was the son of Hugo and Helen Jahr. He graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1949. He married Carolyn Ahrens on August 1, 1953 in Davenport. He served in the US Navy Reserves from 1947 until 1967.
He started his career in construction then moved to Arizona where he worked for the Department of Revenue as an Assessor for 27 years. One of his proudest duties was the assessment of the London Bridge in Lake Havasu along with the Biosphere in the desert.
Together with his wife, Herb enjoyed going on cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed going to casinos. He liked to stay active and work with wood in his free time. After his retirement, they purchased a home in Lake of the Ozarks where he enjoyed fishing and he and his wife volunteered at the local hospital faithfully.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carolyn, two nephews, one niece, and dear friends, Gladys and Ron Arnold. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willber “Will” and sister, Valeria Cribbs.
