

Howard Emil Litke, 59, of Davenport, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center East Campus. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Risen Christ Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Runge Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Special Education Department at Davenport West High School or to the family for a fund to be established by his children. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. He was born on May 7, 1954 in Connecticut, the son of Walter and Helen Litke. He was united in marriage to Julie Dubberke on June 9, 1984 in Hubbard. Iowa.
Howard graduated from Terryville, Connecticut High School in 1972 and college in Huron, South Dakota and then got his Master’s Degree from St. Ambrose and Doctorate from Drake University. He taught in Wilton and Hubbard and for almost 10 years as a Special Education Teacher at Davenport West High School teaching for a total of 35 years. He had the gift of getting through to students and helping them succeed. He was a member of the National Education Association.
He was a very proud father and husband and loved spending time with his family. He loved gardening, working outside, animals and the ocean. He also liked to cook and listen to music. Survivors include his wife, Julie; children Justine Helen Litke and Alexander Walter Litke; mother-in-law, Dorothy J. Dubberke, Hubbard, IA; brother-in-law, Alan (Virginia) Dubberke, Amana, IA; aunts, Erna Litke and Emily Beal, Terryville, CT. and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
