Illene M. Kelty

Memorial services for Illene M. Kelty, 80, of Davenport will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Apostolic Sanctuary of Rock Island, 3808 11th Street, Rock Island, IL. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Inurnment will be held at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Mrs. Kelty passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at her residence in Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements. Illene Mae Eklund was born in Davenport on March 4, 1931, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Eppard) Eklund. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Luke’s College of Nursing. On June 29, 1950, she married Jerome E. Kelty. He preceded her in death in 1986. She worked as a nurse at the former St. Luke’s Hospital prior to her retirement in 1992. Illene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, and bowling. She had a love of the arts, especially doing ceramics, drawing, dancing, singing, and music. Illene is survived by five daughters: Linda (John Schmits) Kelty of Muscatine, IA, Beth (Martin) Washburn of Levittown, PA, Jean (Gerald “Casey” Jones) Kelty of Clinton, IA, Pat Swenson of Milan, IL, Amy Kelty of Davenport, IA; four sons: Kevin (Julie Mullen) Kelty of Davenport, IA, Paul Kelty of Milan, IL, Kerry Kelty of East Moline, IL, Scott (Ross Holmstrom) Kelty of Geneseo, IL; a brother: Robert Eklund of Davenport, IA; a sister: Ruth Ann Farnsworth of Davenport, IA; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Illene was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Peel; and two brothers: Ray Eklund and David Eklund. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association.
