

A funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014, with Visitation at 9:30a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport. He will be laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where he will receive U.S. Military Honors. Jacob (Jake) was born March 29, 1923, in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of Daniel and Christine (Henke) Nagle. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army and served in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He saw combat during the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded two combat battle stars. When he returned from serving overseas he was sent to Moore General Army Hospital in North Carolina to receive medical treatment. While recovering, he met Irene (Kinnemann) Nagle, an Army Medical Technician also assigned to Moore General Army Hospital. They were soon after married on January 11, 1947.
He had worked for Jacobs Cleaners in Rock Island, and Burke Cleaners in Davenport where he retired in 1985.
He was an active member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church for nearly 60 years. He had been a member of the American Legion, The Davenport Elks Club, and the Davenport Moose Lodge. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He was active in several bowling and golf leagues for many years.
Those left to honor his memory ; son, Daniel, Pickerington, OH; grandchildren, Kate Dowsett, Schaumburg, IL., Christopher (Amie DeLuca) Dowsett, Oak Park, IL, and Jackie Nagle, Pittsburgh, PA; great-granddaughter, Ellie Notter, Schaumburg, IL.; and sons in law Patrick (Karen) Dowsett, Moline, IL., and Daryl Tindall, Preemption, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Irene, and daughter, Margaret Tindall.
The family would like to send a special heartfelt thanks to the many staff and volunteers at the Good Samaritan who so lovingly cared for him the last eight years.
