The life and times of the incredible Jacquelin Elsie Tunis mark a life well lived. Jacquelin was born in Davenport, Iowa on Wednesday January 16, 1929 and spent her childhood in Davenport. After her graduation from Davenport High School, Jacquelin was united in marriage to Richard Eugene Tunis on January 19th, 1949 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Jacquelin and Richard subsequent moved to Glendale, Arizona and then finally back to Davenport to begin to raise their large family. Together they had six children.
Jacquelin (known to her friends and family as Jackie) was first and foremost a mother focused on raising her six children, but did work outside the home professionally as secretary in the education department of Mercy Hospital in Davenport Iowa for a number of years, retiring some thirty years ago.
A loving wife, mother, sister, friend, crafter, quilt maker, avid reader, teacher, philosopher, card player, and always the purveyor of (much deserved) home justice, Jackie loved spending time with her many family and friends and was always willing to host frequent family Sunday lunches encouraging family gatherings for any reason always emphasizing the importance of family.
Spending her early life in a small quiet river town just large enough to have some of the modern conveniences such as electricity, coal delivery, fuel, oil and ice for keeping your food cool when spring arrived, engrained in her early memories of her first childhood home at 2727 Rockingham Road as pleasant and positive with strong sense of gratitude to have a home to live in. Her belief in the importance of family and friends was second to none. She always said times in her youth were simple but good being surrounded by family she loved. She never complained about things she did not have and was always grateful for the many blessings she did have. May her family and friends continue to learn from her life, simplicity of thought and be guided by her humility.
Survivors include her children Linda (Leo) Sebbas of Collierville, TN, Richard (Gloria) Tunis, Davenport, IA, Denise (Duane) Levien Calamus, IA, Tim (Lisa) Tunis Davenport, IA, Scott (Mary Storto) Tunis Bettendorf, IA, and David (Tammy) Tunis of Blue Grass, IA, as well as many magnificent grandchildren and great grandchildren making it impossible to list. One should note her loving relationship with all her grandchildren further reinforce her loving personality and positive life influence.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents John Claus Passig and Margaret Alma Gilbert, her husband Richard Tunis, her brothers Robert Passig, Harold Passig, and her Sister Evelyn Passig
