James “Jim” Hintze Jr., 93, of Davenport, Iowa, died Monday, September 9, 2024 at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial services in celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 1:30 PM; visitation will be before the service starting at 12:00 PM at Weerts Funeral Home. Inurnment will be following the service at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army.
Jim was born on January 27, 1931 in Davenport, Iowa to James Sr. and Luella M. Hintze and was a graduate of Davenport High School. He served with the U.S. Navy in the submarine service at New London, CT for three years aboard the USS Proteus AS19. His father started Northwest Plumbing and Heating Company in 1923, and from 1950 to 1983, James Jr. operated his father’s company. Also during this time, he owned and operated his own general contracting company in Davenport and Bettendorf. After 1983, Jim worked at KJWW Engineering Co, Rock Island, as a draftsman and tech plumbing engineer. He also worked as an estimator and project manager for other plumbing and heating contractors and general contractors in the QC area, and in Milwaukee, WI as well. He retired in June 2009 after 59 years in the business, 16 of those on the Davenport Plumbing Code Board. His other memberships included Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf and Salvation Army Advisory Board, Davenport, of which he was chairman. Previously, he was active with the Johnson School Dad’s Club (President 1961), Davenport One, Davenport Noon Optimist Club, Davenport Noon Kiwanis Club (Past VP), and Davenport Club. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home for over ten years, fishing in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida, golfing, and attending Disney World in Florida nearly every year since its opening.
Survivors include his children James (Mary) Hintze III, of Nazaretha, PA, Julie Ann (Dan) Sikora of Minocqua, WI, John A. (Tracey) Hintze of Davenport, IA, and JoAnn A. “Tootie” (Dwayne) Adkins of Granbury, TX; seven grandchildren: Racheal Hintze, James A. Hintze, IV, Cassie Doherty all of New Jersey, Nicholas (Nicole) Adkins of Boyd, TX, Craig (Emily) Sikora of Black Creek, WI, Kyle Sikora of Hartford, WI, and Abby (Michael) Moennig of Mukwonago, WI; four great-grandchildren; and a very good friend Nancy C. Wilson of Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents James, Sr and Luella.
