Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior Presbyterian Church in Argo, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary in Davenport, IA. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Jim was born in Davenport, IA, in 1938 to Eldon and Helen (Wooder) Fletcher. He graduated from DeWitt Central High School and began his career at Alcoa shortly after graduation. He enlisted in the Army and proudly served for four years. After completing his military service, he returned to Alcoa, where he worked in the Roll Shop until his retirement. He also owned and operated his own business, Argo Sewer Service.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet Hover, on September 6, 1969, in Rock Island, IL. Together, they raised their children: Anne (Glenn) Curtis, Davenport; Daniel Fletcher, Mt. Vernon; Sandi (Bill) Spurrell, North Liberty; and Melissa (Curtiss) Carter, Davenport. He was also the father of three children from a previous marriage: Jim (Divina), Fall River, WI; John (preceded in death by his wife, Wendy) Fletcher, McCausland; and Juliee Fletcher Beaver, Houston, TX. Each of his children held a special place in his heart throughout his life.
Jim had many passions, including collecting Japanese swords, studying historical memorabilia, carving unique walking canes, and teaching his children to fish while sharing his love of the outdoors. His Christian faith guided his life, reflected in his strength, kindness, and willingness to help others. He also loved to sing, using his gift of music to bring joy and people together.
In addition to his children, he is survived by his special friend, Sue Solomon, East Moline, IL; grandchildren T.J., Ashley, Steven, Ryan, Ethan, Chase, James, Megan, Colin, Heidi, Mari, Ripley, and Ryland; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister Judy (Mark) Flaherty; and brother Dave (Jim) Fletcher.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; grandson Michael “Mikey” Farrell; brother Duane; his parents; and his beloved cat, Paddy.
