Jamie Lyn Peterman

Jamie Peterman, 39, passed away on September 22, 2026, leaving behind family, friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by her kindness and enormous heart. A celebration of Jamie's life will be held on October 10, 2026 from 1-5 pm at the McCausland fire station. The address to the fire station is 307 N Salina Street, McCausland Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sophia and Emma Dexter educational fund.

Jamie was a loving mother, daughter, sister, partner, aunt, and friend. Above all else, she had an incredibly big heart. She was the kind of person who would help someone without thinking twice, even if it meant going without herself. Caring for others came naturally to Jamie, whether it was someone she loved or a complete stranger who simply needed a little kindness.

Jamie’s family meant everything to her, and she shared a beautiful life with the love of her life, Steve Dexter, and her daughters, Sophia and Emma. Being a mother was one of the most important parts of Jamie’s life, and the love she had for her girls was immeasurable. The memories, lessons, laughter, and love she gave them will remain a part of them forever.

Jamie was born and raised in Davenport, but she had a special love for country life and the peace and simplicity that came with it. She also had a soft spot for animals and was happiest when she was able to care for others, whether they had two legs or four.

She worked at Argo’s Corner, where her kindness and personality touched the lives of coworkers and customers alike.One of the things that made Jamie so special was the way she noticed people. If someone was hurting, struggling, or simply needed someone to listen, Jamie would stop and be there. She had a rare ability to make people feel seen and cared for, and she gave that kindness freely throughout her life.

Even in death, Jamie continued that spirit of giving through organ donation, offering others hope and life through one final act of generosity. It was a final reflection of the way Jamie lived, always willing to give something of herself to help someone else.

Jamie is survived by the love of her life, Steve Dexter; daughters, Sophia and Emma; nephew, Sawyer; sister and brother-in-law, Nate and Kerstyn Thomas; Steve's children, Beau (Katie) Dexter, Ashley (Jenna) Dexter, Cody Dexter; brother in laws, Anthony Dexter and John Dexter; bonus family, Cameron, Bree, Joseph, and Gracelyn; her loving parents, Barb and Lyn Peterman; aunts, Nancy and Yazmin; her special lifelong friend, Lea; and numerous cousins and their families.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald and Joann Peterman, John and Gerry Stewart, and Bruce and Emmy Lou Dexter; and her uncle, Doug Stewart; aunts, Dawn Dennis and Brandie Faust.

Jamie will be remembered for her enormous heart, her fierce love for her daughters and family, her compassion for others, her love of animals, and the way she could make a difference in someone’s life simply by caring.

Her absence will be felt in countless ways, but the love she gave so freely will continue through Sophia and Emma, Steve, her family and friends, and every person fortunate enough to have been touched by her kindness. Jamie’s life was far too short, but it was filled with love — and that love will continue to live on in all who knew her.
