She worked as an insurance professional. On July 18, 1975, she united in marriage with the love of her life, Loren Wakeman, with whom she raised three children.
Family was the cornerstone of Janet’s joy, and she and Loren created a lifetime of memories camping and vacationing together.
Janet and Loren found joy in traveling with close friends and creating lasting memories. Janet’s creative spirit found expression in her love for crochet, creating beautiful afghans and baby blankets that became cherished gifts for family and friends.
In June of 2019, Janet faced the challenges of Frontotemporal Degeneration, finding comfort and care at the Iowa Masonic Home. She appreciated the support and engaging activities provided by the staff during her time there. On January 20, 2024, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Janet is survived by her sons, David (Joan) Wakeman, Paul Wakeman, and daughter, Leta (Jeff) Rose, and seven grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Ethel Gurke, and her adoring husband, Loren Wakeman.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, at Coram Deo Bible Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Davenport Memorial Park. In honor of Janet’s memory, the family kindly requests donations to the Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration through the www.theaftd.org.
As we remember Janet Marie Wakeman, let us celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, kindness, and the enduring connections she forged with those fortunate enough to share in her journey. May she rest in peace.
