

Memorial services for Jeanne K. Milligan, age 92, of Davenport will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 11:30 AM until service time at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date. Mrs. Milligan died on Friday, November 28, 2008, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.Jeanne King was born on May 26, 1916, to Alva and Edith (Hughes) King in Trumansburg, NY. She married Ralph H. Woolsey in Chicago, IL, in December 1941 and later married H. Merritt Milligan on February 16, 1973, in Waterloo, IA. He preceded her in death in October of 1991.Mrs. Milligan was a graduate of Hastings College in Hastings, NE and completed graduate work at the National College of Education in Evanston, IL. In her earlier years she worked as an elementary school teacher in Highland Park, IL. She served as the Director of Christian Education at the First Presbyterian Church in Oelwein and Muscatine, IA and then went on to become a social worker with the Iowa Department of Human Services in Muscatine, IA and Waterloo, IA working in the areas of child welfare services, adoptions and day care licensing. More recently she had volunteered as a Parent Aide with DHS and as a court appointed volunteer with C.A.S.A. She volunteered in adult literacy programs and in the Davenport Public Schools assisting children with reading. Jeanne was a member of the Friday Book Club. She was an avid reader, loved sewing, knitting, playing the piano and attended the Quad City Symphony concerts regularly. Jeanne was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport where she had served on the session as an elder and also as a deacon. She was an active member of her Church Women's Circle and taught Bible study.Survivors include - 1 Daughter: Maribeth Woolsey of Cedar Falls, IA; 2 Stepdaughters: Marianne Milligan of Salem, OR and Marcia (Bruce) Bagg of Springfield, IL; 1 Stepson: Dr. John (Pat) Milligan of Weed, CA.; and 2 nieces: Carole (Harold) Collins, of Phoenix, AZ and Gwen (John) Vetnar of Peoria, AZ.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her Son: Ralph "Rallie" Woolsey, and a Sister: Emily Faust.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport.
