

Jerry L. Elvert, 65, of Davenport passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at University Hospitals, Iowa City, IA. Funeral services will be Tuesday 10:00AM at the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 5-8Pm at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church Buffalo, IA, St. Mark Lutheran Church Davenport, IA, or to the QC Animal Welfare Shelter Milan, IL where Jerry found his beloved beagle Libby.
Jerry was born May 8, 1945 in Davenport, IA to Arthur & Florine Elvert. He was united in marriage to Debbie Stalder on September 23, 1967 in Davenport. Jerry was a US Army Vietnam veteran serving from 1965 to 1967 as a combat engineer. Jerry was a member of the Teamsters Local 371 having been a truck driver for 25 years prior to retiring. He then went to work for the City of Davenport Parks & Recreation for 10 more years retiring from there in 2009.
Jerry was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport. Earlier in life, Jerry had been a very competitive fast pitch softball player which meant his kids were raised on the fields as the family traveled to play in tournaments. Jerry also loved to fish. He had the ability to catch fish, even on the hard days when no one else could. His wife was the light of his life and he made it a point to tell her and show her affectionately each day. He would help Deb with many of her activities such QC Plus 60 events.
Jerry’s children and grandchildren brought great joy & pride to him. He was the best husband, father, and grandpa any one could ask for and he will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Debbie Elvert, Davenport, IA; 2 daughters Jennifer (Jeff) Sacco, Peoria, IL, Jill Marquis Ft. Wayne, IN; Son John (Karen) Elvert, Festus, MO; Grandchildren Dustin Sacco, Grant Ronnebeck, Jessica Sacco, Hannah Elvert, & Logan Elvert; and a brother Craig (Vicki) Elvert Eldridge, IA.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
