Jerry L. Fleener, 70, of Walcott, IA, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2020, at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Jerry was born April 4, 1949, to Lee and Doris Fleener (Mefford) in Ottumwa, IA. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1967. Following high school, Jerry proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After the war, he married Joanne Cosper in 1973, adopted two children and was married for 22 years. In 1995, he married Kelly Lowe. Together they had a daughter and were married for 20 years.
Jerry was employed at Case for eight years in the construction and farm equipment business. Afterward, in 1983, Jerry was hired at Kraft as a production operator, where he was employed for over 30 years until retirement in 2016. In his free time, he had a lot of passions, including shooting and reloading guns, Harley Davidson motorcycles, spending time with his dogs, remote planes, cars, and drones, taking walks, following the sport of MMA, motor sports, and discussing politics.
Jerry will be missed by his children, Brian (Patricia) Fleener, Jennifer (Chad) Keller, Tyler (Molly) DeRoo, Michael DeRoo, Amanda Fleener; nine grandchildren; a sister, Brenda (David) Knowsley; and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, David.
