Jneal Smith, 85, previously of Bettendorf, IA, transitioned on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, IA. Funeral Services will follow starting at 11:00 a.m., also at the Weerts Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, IA. Jneal was born March 21, 1937, to John Tyler and Avana Jackson-Smith in Preston, MS but spent most of his early years in Louisville, MS. On October 20, 1961, he was united in marriage to Thelma Leake in Rock Island, IL. Jneal worked for the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan, IL. His hobbies included fishing for walleye, trout and catfish at Lake Erie; spending time at the casino, lawn care and listening to Rhythm & Blues, Rock & Country oldies.

Surviving members of the family include his three daughters: Jeanette Karadag, Tammy Owens, and Renee Martin; two sons: Neal Smith and Letron Smith; one son-in-law: Murat Karadag; one daughter-in-law: Natalie Smith; eight Grandchildren: Tamika, Joshua, Brittney, Kaylin, Chadwin, Chayse, Joslynn, and Olivia; five Great-Grandchildren: Kendyl, Kia, Arielle, Kai, Vienna; and Siblings: Juanita Terry, Valgene (Ann) Smith, and Valerie Smith and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Those preceding him in death include his parents, John Tyler and Avana Jackson-Smith; his wife, Thelma, in 2019; children, Latonia Smith and Wesley Smith; and siblings, Verdis Smith, Earlean Moore, Arnold Smith, Wardean Lampkin, Varsie "Smitty" Smith, and J. Johnnie Smith.
