The family will greet friends from 9 AM till service time. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the local Student Hunger Drive. Joanne, along with her twin brother, Jack, were born in 1934, daughter of Israel and Viola Barr. She married James H. Maxwell Sr. on April 1, 1950. Since they married on April Fool’s Day, she would joke with her children that maybe she didn’t really get married to our dad. They were married over 62 years. Shortly after their wedding, Joanne and Jim’s children began to arrive. They were parents to four sons and two daughters. Joanne fulfilled her dream of being a mom - as she often said that was all she ever wanted. Her children were blessed to have had Joanne stay home to raise her children and she did so lovingly. Her children never went without a home-cooked meal and were blessed and overjoyed to have chocolate chip cookies, chocolate dreams and cakes, pies and all things chocolate after every lunch and dinner. If mom had a nickel for every chocolate chip cookie she baked, she would’ve been a rich woman. Joanne was proud that each one of her kids played a musical instrument. She loved the sound of those instruments playing (even if it wasn’t perfect) and her kids singing. Joanne was a faithful, loving wife. She was a devoted mom who would do anything for her kids and she was a loving grandma. Jim and Joanne brought their children up going to church and learning to love the Lord and setting great examples of the people they would want their children to be. All their children possessed their strong work ethic, sense of responsibility and to have and show respect to all people. She treasured all the moments she had with her family. She is lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Patricia (Pat) Fuller, Joseph (Joe) Maxwell, Timothy (Tim) and Cindy Maxwell, Elizabeth (Beth) and Mike Martinez, Scott and Luci Maxwell, her grandchildren, Joseph Maxwell Jr., Jeremiah Maxwell, James Maxwell III, Johnny Fuller Jr., Jennifer Lockhart, Melissa Treanton, Bridget Austin, Charissa Menicucci, Joshua Maxwell, Rachel Stewart, Angela Valler, Charity Greene, Elijah Maxwell, Schyler Maxwell and Sydney Maxwell; over forty great- grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and four step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and his family, Ed, Delores and Brenda Barr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Maxwell Sr., first-born son, James Maxwell Jr., grandson, Jacob Maxwell and her twin brother, Jack Barr. The family extends its’ appreciation to Bickford of Davenport for their thoughtful kindness and understanding care the last few years and to Beacon of Hope Hospice for their compassionate care for Joanne while always maintaining her dignity. Her family also appreciates the friendship, care and concern both Bickford and Beacon of Hope provided to Joanne’s family.
