He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John was born on October 30, 1945, in Dubuque, Iowa to George and Delberta Mastin. John served in the Army during Vietnam. He worked at Caterpillar until his retirement and worked at PSI after retirement until his cancer diagnosis, which he went on to beat. He was united in marriage to Janet Ruge in July of 1973, where they went on to celebrate 51 years of marriage and build a loving family.
John will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love for hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards and drinking beers. He also enjoyed attending car shows with the Quad Cities Cruisers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Verna and two brothers Delbert and Richard.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Janet Mastin; seven children, Bob Mastin (Rhea) of Davenport, Victoria Campbell of Davenport, Roger Mastin (Cheryl) of Long Grove, Donna Myers (Bob) of West Burlington, Donnie Bengston of Davenport, Denise Gomez (Tony) of Davenport, and Sean Mastin (Robin) of Davenport; Sister Linda Freed (Mike) of Cassville WI; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday November 14th from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will take place Friday November 15th at 10 am, with burial to follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery.

Though John is no longer with us, his love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in our hearts. We take comfort in knowing that he now rests in peace and that his memory will continue to bring light to those who knew and loved him.
