John R. Shumaker

Funeral services for John R. Shumaker, 64, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Davenport, IA will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Mr. Shumaker died unexpectedly on October 29th while visiting his daughter in San Diego, CA.John Robert Shumaker was born on October 30, 1949 in Moline, IL, the son of Luther “Bob” and Mary (Bartosik) Shumaker. After graduating from high school he attended Black Hawk Community College and served in both the Iowa and Illinois National Guard for 6 Years. On July 30, 1971 he married Julie M. Bos whom he had met while singing at an “Up With People” gathering.John worked for many years in hotel/motel management serving as night auditor at the former Clayton House in Davenport, the Hotel Blackhawk, and in several hotels in the Indianapolis area. He was a big sports fan and followed closely the Colts, Hawkeyes, and the Cardinals. He was a long time member of the Indianapolis Chapter of the Iowa Alumni Association and also in earlier years was a member of “Sing Out Quad Cities.”Surviving members of the family include - his Wife: Julie; a Daughter Jennifer “Jen” Shumaker of San Diego, CA; 2 Sons: John “Rob” Shumaker of Indianapolis, and Joshua “Josh” (Amanda) Shumaker of Bettendorf; 2 Brothers: Ronald Shumaker of Moline and Donald (Mary Kaye) Shumaker of Davenport: and 4 Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Larry.Memorials may be made to “UNOS”, the United Network For Organ Sharing.
