

John Slawinski, 53, of Davenport, passed away on Friday February 28, 2014 at his home in Davenport.John Stephen Slawinski Jr. was born on January 29, 1961 in Manhasset, NY, the beloved son of John Sr. and Betty (Gumm) Slawinski. He graduated from Great Neck High School, Great Neck, New York. He married Misty Stibolt on January 30, 2003. He served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sgt. from 1979 to 1993. He worked for the US Air Force for 14 years as a Biomedical Equipment Specialist where he received several awards and commendations. He also worked Various Civilian Bio Medical jobs, retiring from Sudexo. John enjoyed a good conversation on a variety of subjects including, religion, politics and the weather. He enjoyed taking fall color trips with his wife Misty. He also enjoyed camping and fishing though the fish never seemed too interested in the bait he used. Football season brought about a divided house as he loved the New York Giants and she rooted for the Bears. Worshipping God was a top priority for his family. He loved the traditional hymns and classical music. He will also be remembered for all the good (and lame) jokes he shared. He fought a strong fight with multiple sclerosis for nine years. He will be missed by many.Survivors include his wife Misty, of Davenport, his parents, John and Betty Slawinski, sons, Stephen, John III, Christopher, Ryan, step-son & friend Brandon Norris, & Joshua Myers. Daughters, Amy, Jennifer, Sarah Elizabeth & step-daughters, Christina Norris, Annie Porte, Sarah Baese, four grandchildren, his beloved brothers, Paul (Angel) Slawinski, Thomas Slawinski, sisters, Deborah Sniffen, Tina (Ross) Kash and seven nieces and nephews.He is preceded in Death by his grandparents, Stella and John Slawinski, grandparents, Mary and George Gumm, and an Uncle George Gumm Jr. Funeral services for John S. Slawinski Jr., will be 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday at Crossroads Independent Baptist Church, (21141 Scott Park Rd, Davenport, IA 52807) Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, where military rites will be conducted by the the Vietnam Veterans of America #299.
