He was born in Davenport Iowa on June 26, 1963. Johnny graduated from West High School in Davenport Iowa in 1981. On June 1, 1996 he was united in marriage to Wendi Madsen. They enjoyed many adventures in their 30 years together. Johnny retired from the US Army Corp of Engineers on December 31, 2023 as a supervisor after 25 years of service.Johnny was also known around the racing community and elsewhere as Booker. Some people were not even aware of his birth name. Johnny was an avid dirt track race fan. He loved to golf and travel, especially to a beach. He was a devoted husband and father and always had a sense of humor about everyone and everything. He could make you laugh, but more
importantly, there isn’t anything that he wouldn’t do for his family and friends. He would never
brag about it, he just loved being there for people.
John was survived by his wife Wendi Bennett; son, Nickolas Bennett; his step-father, Dave
Herrmann; sister, Lisa Smith (Barry Smith) and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bennett. He is also survived by multiple sister and brother in laws, cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Bennett and Virginette Herrmann; brother,
Darrell Bennett and son, Kyle Bennett.
Johnny is someone with a heart bigger than most that couldn’t sustain all he wanted and needed to
do. He will be missed more than we can express.
