Judith Ann Vance

Judy was born in Davenport, IA on June 22, 1941 to Edith Jenkins Scharfenberg born in Rock Island, IL and Walter D Scharfenberg born in New Muenster, Germany. She was one of eight children. On April 16, 1966, Judy married Russell Vance and the couple had one son. Together they were members of Southpark Presbyterian Church of Rock Island, IL. Judy worked for AT&T before becoming a mother. After her son was born, she devoted herself full time to motherhood and home making. Judy lost her husband last year of 56 years and struggled to live without him. During the last six months of her life, she lived at Lakeway Nursing Home in Benton, KY where she found peace and happiness with her new friends.

Judy loved animals, flowers and bright colors. Judy loved to make people laugh and was quite the jokester. Most of all, she loved cooking and spending time with her granddaughters. Judy was protective of those she loved and wasn’t afraid of standing up for what she believed in. She enjoyed spending time bird watching and talking on the phone with her sisters.

Judy is survived by her son, Stephen Vance, two granddaughters, Hayden & Harper Vance of Rock Island, IL, two sisters, Kathryn J Scharfenberg Giese of Branson, MO, and Robin D. Scharfenberg Locke (husband, Daniel) of Davenport, IA, brother, William L. Scharfenberg of Cathedral City, CA, sister-in-law, Phyllis Vance Wilson of Milan, IL, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Maynard Vance, her parents, brothers, Daniel L. Scharfenberg, Thomas G. Scharfenberg, and Michael D. Scharfenberg, and sister, Walda L. Scharfenberg Laster.

Visitation will be 5-7pm on Thursday, May 25th at Runge Funeral Home in Davenport, Iowa. Family may arrive at 4pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 26th at the Rock Island Arsenal, officiated by Pastor Brian Bill. For those wishing to attend, arrive at Runge Funeral Home by 11:15am in order to be part of the procession to the Arsenal.
