Julia was born on July 7, 1954, in Witney, Oxfordshire, England. She later moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she attended West High School. On August 20, 1973, she married Ronald Claypool in Las Vegas, Nevada in the most perfect matching shades of powder blue. Together, they made their home in Bettendorf, Iowa, and shared 53 years of marriage.
Julia became a mother to her son, Brian Daniel, in 1975, and welcomed her daughter, Cari Anne, in 1983. She spent nearly 40 years working at the Rock Island Arsenal, but of all the roles she held throughout her life, the one she treasured most was being “Nana.”
Julia found joy in gardening, cooking, and especially crocheting. A handmade gift from Julia was something to be treasured, carrying with it countless hours of care and love. Her Thanksgiving dinners were legendary among those fortunate enough to gather around her table - the kind of meals that left everyone wishing Thanksgiving came more than once a year.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Claypool; her daughter, Cari Anne; her granddaughters, Emily and Evelyn Cooney; and her beloved best friends, Kim (Tim) Quinn and Julie (Jeff) Pethoud.
Julia now joins her son, Brian, who passed away in 1995, in eternal rest.
In accordance with Julia’s wishes, there will be no services. She will be laid to rest at Rock Island National Cemetery alongside her son.
Her family will remember her in the things she created with her own hands, the meals she lovingly prepared, the gardens she tended, and most of all, in the love she gave so freely to the people who meant the most to her.
