Mrs. Porter was born June 17, 1923 to George and Hilda (Brockmann) Stichter in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport High School, Class of 1940. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and then Augustana College, Rock Island. She started her teaching career in rural Scott County. She later was a nursing home administrator in Davenport and retired as a social worker for the State of Illinois.
June married Warren G. Porter May 16, 1980. Warren passed away May 13, 2014. Warren and June traveled extensively, especially enjoying their trip to “the holy land.” She had a stronger faith throughout her life. Warren and June lived in Naples, Florida enjoying their retirement until declining health brought them back home to Iowa in April, 2014.
June is survived by children Nancy (Ronald) Greenlee of St. George, UT, Dennis Vetter of Olympia, WA and Mark (Monty) Yegge of Naples, FL; stepdaughters Linda (John) Norris of Davenport and Sandy (Bob) Froehlich of Savanna, IL, twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. In addition to Warren, she was preceded in death by her previous husband, Richard L. Johnson, her parents and an infant sister, Carol.
Several years ago our Mom wrote: “Our kids, grandkids and great-grandkids provide our greatest reason for living. Praise the Lord!” She will always be remembered for these words. She was very proud that ALL her grandkids have graduated from college and have enjoyed success in life.
The family would like to express appreciation to St. Mary’s Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Davenport and Unity Point Hospice, Moline for excellent care and compassion during our Mom’s final days.
