

Funeral services for Karen J. Rohm, age 75, of Bettendorf, IA will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Community of Christ Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Karen died on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus in Davenport.Karen Jane Chesnutt was born on September 22, 1933, in Newton, IA, the daughter of Seibert and Maxine (Rowley) Chesnutt. She was a graduate of Davenport High School and attended Graceland College. On June 27, 1954, she married Robert Rohm in Rock Island, IL. Karen was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons to many children including her children and grandchildren. In 1967, she began work as a music teacher and accompanist, first for Pleasant Valley High School, then later for Davenport Wood Junior High School until her retirement in 2003. She played the organ and served as the choir director for the church. She loved to travel and always attended church camp and World Conference with her grandchildren and mother. She brought her music to local nursing homes spreading joy to each and everyone, worked out at the Rock Island Arsenal gym, and fed and cooked for the homeless. Karen was very loved by her family and friends and cherished the connection she had with all her family, friends, and her church community. Karen is survived by her Husband: Robert of Bettendorf; two Daughters: Cheryl (Tom) Costello of LeClaire, IA, Cynthia (Marty) Diercks of Princeton, IA; two Sons: Kevin Rohm of Bettendorf, IA, Charles (Angie) Rohm of Ankeny, IA; two Sisters: Sandra (Tom) Lynch of Phoenix, AZ, Rebecca Jane Chesnutt of Davenport; a Brother: Dana (Cindy) Chesnutt of Davenport; 12 grandchildren: Michelle, Angela, Marc, Joe, Bryan, Brett, Taylor, Chase, Sarah, Kelli, Carson, and Madison; a special Nephew: Ian; and a special Cousin: Doyle Paul of Capristino, CA; and 9 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rebecca Maureen, in infancy.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community of Christ Church or to the Cedar Valley Grove campground.
