Karen R. Thomas

Funeral services for Karen R. Thomas, 64, of Davenport will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Thomas died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Manor Care, Locust Street Campus. Karen Ruth Boyd was born on December 3, 1945 in Davenport, the daughter of Roger and Grace (Garner) Boyd. She married Art E. Thomas on June 22, 1990 in Davenport. Mrs. Thomas worked as a CA-RN in the MARC Unit at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport and more recently as an RN at Genesis Medical Center West Campus prior to her failing health. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport and formerly a Camp Fire Girls Leader. The Camp Fire Girls were a big part of her life as was her enjoyment of quilting, cooking, sewing, and collecting baskets and tins. Survivors include - her Husband: Art of Davenport; a Daughter: Rebecca Bolwar of Davenport; a Son: David Bolwar of Nampa, ID; 3 Step-Daughters: Ann Thomas of Dayton, OH, and Tonya Peterson and Sharday Bryant both of Davenport; 1 Sister: Barbara Haigh of Hurst, TX; 2 Special Friends: Mary Savage and Judy Blomgren; 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her parents. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
