Kathryn "Kay" Townsend

Kathryn G. Townsend of Davenport passed to the Lord on Wednesday June 5, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:30 AM Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, and funeral services will follow at 11:30AM. Entombment will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Online condolences may be made at www.TheRungeMortuary.com. Kay was born on a sunny day Sept 17, 1924 in rural Blandinsville, IL daughter of Chester Arthur Smith and Gertrude (Spiker) Smith, the seventh of eight children. She married Jack R. Townsend of rural Bettendorf, IA July 8, 1944 at Camp Robinson, AK. Jack and Kay met while working at M A Ford after graduating from Davenport High School. Jack passed away in 1981. Kay enjoyed a life full of activities that included family reunions, square dancing with the Wagon Wheelers club, ballroom dancing, card club, island boat cruises, NASCAR racing, Wayne Newton fan club, Women of the Moose, YMCA, Cornbelt Running Club, Bix 7 races and all the local road races (often finishing in the top five for her age group). Kay was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, Davenport.

Those left to honor her memory are her three sons, Steven (Janet), Scott, Kelly and her four grandchildren Jacque (James Hill), Kimberly (Eric Landuyt) Stephanie, Elliott and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband, daughter Charlene, four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
