Ken was born September 13, 1916 in Davenport, IA to John & Augusta Louisa (Runge) Olsen. He was a veteran of the US Army Medical Corp having served during WWII. Ken married Margaret Schmidt on April 8, 1944 in Davenport, IA; she preceded him in death in 1973. Ken remarried to Ruth Uttry on October 15, 1982 in Rock Island, IL; she preceded him in death in 2008.

Ken apprenticed at the Runge Mortuary through high school. He was operations manager at Eastin 16mm Pictures and later Blackhawk Films until 1955. He then went to work for the City of Davenport in the parking division, retiring after 26 years as the superintendent.

He was a member of American Legion Post #26 Davenport and a founding member of the Second Alarmers, an auxiliary to the Davenport Fire Department. He was proud to be a lifelong supporter of the Davenport Fire Department.

Survivors include a daughter Dr. Lon Olsen (formerly Linda), West Des Moines, IA

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and a sister Anita Ozmon.
