Kristin Marie “Kris” Sommers, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, surrounded by the love and care of her devoted husband and caretaker, Mike, and her daughter-in-law, Rebekah. She was born on February 27, 1958, to Edward and Joann (Trojovsky) Prebyl.
Kris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was married to Michael Allen Sommers, whom she lovingly called Mike, and with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary together on December 5. Their life together was filled with family, love, challenges, laughter, and countless memories.
Kris cherished her sons so very much. She was incredibly proud of Josh, Adam, and Aaron. Her love for them was unconditional and never wavered.
Kris was strong-willed and stubborn, but she also had a genuinely kind heart. She was known for giving the best hugs, and for her soft-spoken, gentle voice. All of those qualities, together with her unique personality, made her simply Kris.
Kris was a homemaker who devoted much of her life to caring for those she loved. She loved shopping and could spend hours wandering through stores. Purple was her favorite color, and she had a particular love for hummingbirds. She also had a lifelong love for dogs and cherished every dog who was fortunate enough to be part of her life. Her beloved dog, Josie, was especially dear to her.
Kris is survived by her husband, Mike; her sons, Josh (Rebekah), Adam (Nicole), and Aaron (Shannon); her grandchildren, Liam, Lucy, and Levi; her bonus grandchildren, Makenzie and Hayden; her special bonus daughter, Anna Engel; her siblings, Mark, Kirk, Tena, and Karl; and her beloved dog, Josie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Joann (Trojovsky) Prebyl.
The family is deeply grateful to Beacon of Hope Hospice for the much-needed support, compassion, and care they provided to Kris during this difficult time. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Rebekah Sommers for helping Mike care for Kris and for helping keep Kris comfortable and surrounded by love during her final days. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Glenda Currence and Sandy Rice for regularly calling, stopping by, and making sure Mike had the support and anything he needed throughout Kris’s illness and decline.
Kris will be remembered for her strong personality, her kind heart, her wonderful hugs, and the many little things that brought her happiness.
There will be no immediate funeral or memorial service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, when family and friends can come together to remember and honor Kris.
