Larry was born on January 26, 1939 in Johnstown, PA to parents Ruth (McCutcheon) and Daniel Howard. Larry earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from The University of Pittsburgh. His professional career was spent in purchasing and procurement management, retiring from Westinghouse in 2000.
On May 9, 1964, Larry joined Joyce Custer in married union in Johnstown, PA. They went on to spend nearly 60 years of life together living in Pittsburgh PA, Buffalo NY, Aiken SC and most recently Bettendorf. Larry enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He adored the memories they made together and recently had the special privilege of meeting his first great-grandchild.
Larry enjoyed sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, attending many games and Super Bowls with his brother and family. He also cheered on his alma mater - Pitt. He enjoyed vacationing at the beach every summer and in recent years traveling with his family to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Days at the beach were spent relaxing, listening to music and enjoying time spent with those he loved.
Larry, a committed follower of Jesus, was a faithful man and found great importance in caring for others. This was exemplified in his everyday interactions, but also in his missions to Mexico where he helped build homes for those in need. No matter where he went, Larry never met a stranger. He always enjoyed a good conversation, wanting to know more about others. He looked forward to going to the Bettendorf YMCA nearly every day, where he had a large group of friends that became a special community to him.
Larry was the most wonderful husband, Dad, Pap and friend. His love will continue on and we will forever treasure our special memories of him.
Those left to carry his memory, include his loving wife, Joyce Howard; daughter, Lori Sturtzer; son-in-law, Bud Sturtzer; granddaughters, Abigail (Andy) Arndt and Hannah Sturtzer; grandson, Samuel Sturtzer, and his great-grandson, Drew James Arndt.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; Daniel and Ruth Howard; brother, David Howard, and his sister, Shirley Cable.
