L. D. “Jack” Harrington was called to rest on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at home, surrounded by his beloved wife and loving family. Funeral service to honor his life will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Weerts Funeral Home; visitation will be at 12:00 noon before the service. L.D. will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to L.D.’s family.
L.D. was born to Buff and Hattie Harrington on June 23, 1943, in Kemper County, Mississippi. He was united in marriage to Ruth Moore on June 6, 1987.
L.D. worked for Blackhawk Foundry, John Deere, Caterpillars, Brach's Candy Company, and retired from Rock Island Arsenal as a civilian factory worker. He enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories, doing yard work, fishing, listening to Blues music, watching Western movies, and taking trips to wash his car.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Mary Bloch-Thomas, brothers Willie Harrington, Eugene Harrington, Buford Harrington, Wilbert Harrington, Elgin Harrington, Ervin Harrington and Wade Harrington, and sisters Florine Mosley, Irene Collidge, Annie Carr, Dorothy Jones, Molly Hannah, and Jenny Harrington.
He is survived by his wife 37 years, Ruth Harrington, and one son Nathan (Rebecca) Bloch; one daughter Jacqueline Bloch; step-children Latrenda (Timothy) Soukup and Joe (Rimi) Jackson; brother Leroy Harrington; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
