

Leeta Jeanette Stuhler was born April 15, 1933, in Seneca Falls, New York, the daughter of John Davis Smith and Leeta Smith. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at Edwards United Church of Christ at 3420 Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport, IA, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation prior from 1:00-2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held privately.
She graduated from Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, NY, in 1954. She married James Richard Stuhler on January 21, 1956, in the Presbyterian Church in Seneca Falls, NY.
She served on the Jr. Theater Board, the Jr. Board of the VNA, and the St. Luke’s and Genesis Medical Center Auxiliaries. She was a member of Edwards Church and Chapter IR PEO.
Leeta loved to knit, and made many sweaters and blankets for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed flower gardening and being outdoors. She had a life-long love of animals, especially cats. She and Jim took many trips around the U.S. and overseas. They liked to visit their children and grandchildren as often as possible.
Surviving her are son James Jr., son Thomas and his wife Kathy, daughter Susan and her husband William Kimmel, grandchildren Jon Kimmel (Melissa) and Lauren Hinrichsen (Hans), Emily and Natalie Stuhler, and great-granddaughter Evelyn Hinrichsen. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband James, brother George Smith, and sister Eudora McClellan.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Summit of Coralville and Windmill Manor for their care and support. They would also like to thank Moments Hospice for their care and compassion in Leeta's final moments.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverbend Food Bank or QC Animal Welfare, Milan, IL.
