Lester V. Ford, 90, of Dixon, IA passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Visitation will be from 4- 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Runge Mortuary, 838 E. Kimberly Rd., Davenport. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018 with a visitation one hour prior, at Hope Church, 300 Muscatine St., Dixon, IA. He will be laid to rest in Dixon Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Lester was born January 25, 1928 to Eugene James and Emma Rose (Rische) Ford in Herreid, SD where he grew up on the family farm. He married Clara Beck on June 4, 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, SD. He did farm work and construction, helping to build the Oahe Dam in Pierre, SD starting in 1951. In 1966 he moved his family to rural Donahue, where he worked on a farm for 13 years until 1979. Lester then worked for the City of Davenport’s water treatment facility until he retired in April, 1993. He spent his retired years enjoying vacationing on his motorcycle, visiting and traveling with family, doing wood-working projects, family history research, computers and Sudoku puzzles. He was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clara; children: Gloria Olvera, James Ford, Mary (John) Rosenboom, John (Roxeann) Ford, Jean Ford, Dale Ford (Armand Zakarauskas), Paul (Donna) Ford, Tim Ford (Angie Perez) and Sheri (Rick) Duhme; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a sister, Lavina Iverson.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for their fine care of Lester in the last month of his life. Memorials may be made to Hope Church or Clarissa C.
