She was born on February 19, 1931, in Oberndorf, Germany, the daughter of Arthur and Anna Maria (Dohrmann) von der Lieth. Lisa attended high school in Stade, Germany from 1942 to 1945. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 and proudly became a citizen in 1959.
After settling in America, Lisa graduated from Burlington Community College where she began her career as an educator, teaching grade school for two years. She continued her education at Marycrest College, earning a degree in biology and medical technology in 1964. For 28 years, she worked as a medical technologist at Mercy Hospital and Genesis West, where her dedication and compassion touched countless lives.
Lisa joined Zion Lutheran Church in 1961, where she was united in marriage with Alexander Zosulis. They enjoyed a loving partnership until his passing in March, 2001. Throughout her life, Lisa was an active member of her church, lending a hand and opening her home whenever needed. She enjoyed her time spent sewing, quilting, and crocheting and found joy in participating in bridge and canasta clubs. As an avid reader, she cherished her book clubs and could be described as a lifelong learner. Lisa was a beloved friend to so many in the Davenport community and beyond.
In keeping with her selflessness and love of science, Lisa donated her body to the University of Iowa, contributing to medical research and education.
She is survived by her brother, Adolf von der Lieth in Germany, and his daughters, Marlis Petroski (Jurgen) and Monika von der Lieth. Lisa also leaves behind Aivars’ wife, Francene of Newton, Iowa; granddaughters, Kari (Timothy) Hemann of Newton, Iowa, and Lori (Steven) Daniel of Fort Dodge, Iowa; as well as grandsons, Kyle (Manuela) and Kevin (Michelle) Zosulis. Her great-grandchildren include Sydney and Collin (Belinda) Hemann and Logan Finowski, along with Jack and Kayla Zosulis and Jake, Luke, and Ryan Zosulis.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Hans-Heinrich and Johann von der Lieth; her husband, Alexander Zosulis; and her stepsons, Aivars Zosulis and Edwin and his wife Margaret Zosulis.
