Lloyd D. Edwards

Funeral services for Lloyd D. Edwards, 93, of Davenport, IA, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mr. Edwards died on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center East Campus in Davenport. Lloyd David Edwards was born in Davenport on March 26, 1922, to Pearl and Catherine “Belle” (McElderry) Edwards. Following his graduation from Buffalo High School with the class of 1940, he enlisted in the United States Army serving with the 508th Parachute Infantry Division in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater and also the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. On March 26, 1943 he married Eleanor M. Jeurgensen in Davenport. She preceded him in death in December of 2007. Following his discharge from the Army in 1945, Mr. Edwards worked numerous jobs until securing employment with the Rock Island Arsenal in 1973. He retired in 1987, after 14 years of service. At the time of his death, Mr. Edwards maintained the longest-standing membership of First Baptist Church in Davenport and was also a long time member of the Quad Cities Antique Ford Club. He worked with his wife to restore their beloved 1929 Buick. Lloyd also enjoyed collecting antique gas engines and would show them annually at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Survivors include - 2 Sons: Larry (Sandy) Edwards and Donald (Janet) Edwards both of Davenport; 2 Daughters: Debbie (Todd) Gellerstedt and Cheryl Matthews also both of Davenport; a Brother: Leonard (Winnie) Edwards of Clinton, MS; a Sister: Kathryn Kurht of Davenport; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by - his Wife, Eleanor; his Parents; a Daughter: Vallee Edwards-Heck; and 2 Brothers: Lazelle and Robert. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Davenport American Legion Post #26 or to the Patriot Guard.
