He was born to Gloria Pool (Stutzel) and Jerome Pool on November 28, 1959, and raised in McCausland, IA. He was united in marriage to Terry Schafer on July 19th, 1980, before settling down in Bettendorf, IA, in a home that he spent many years rebuilding and perfecting - a labor of love for Lonnie. His passion for cars led to a 45-year career in autobody repair, working on many vintage vehicles, often with the help of his loyal car friends. He was an avid tinkerer, known to salvage everything from a jukebox to a player piano. He could fix just about anything with a little duct tape, super glue, a Saw-zall, and WD40.
His greatest achievement in life was his family. He adored his wife, three daughters, and five grandchildren, and enjoyed many adventures with them. He instilled in them the value of working hard but always finding time to appreciate the joys in life. He enjoyed travelling, boating, and camping, recently taking his motorhome on several trips. Many memories were made while having a few beers at the shop with friends, completing woodworking projects, and sitting by a campfire.
Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Terry; three daughters, Ashley (Kevin) Connell, Chelsi (Jeremy) Lees, and Kelli (Dylan) Bartels. He leaves five grandchildren to honor his legacy: Eliza, Rowan, Lydia, Eleanor, and Maryn. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki (Larry) Marshall. Preceding him in death were his parents; step-father Jerry Ostermeier; two sisters, Shirley and Geri; and his infant son, Jerald.
A private family burial will take place in McCausland, IA on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, with a public luncheon to follow at The United Methodist Church in McCausland, IA, at 11:00 am. The family invites all who loved Lonnie to come celebrate.
